Peter Moffett, MD
Program Director
Pete Moffett attended the University of Delaware for undergraduate studies before attending Jefferson Medical College for his medical degree. He participated in the Health Professions Scholarship Program leading to a commission in the United States Army and completed his residency in emergency medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, Washington. After graduating from residency, Dr. Moffett was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn where he earned a Meritorious Service Medal. Upon his return he was stationed at Fort Hood Texas where he served as the Director of Research for the Department of Emergency Medicine. After serving for 7 years in the United States Medical Corps, Dr. Moffett honorably separated at the rank of Major and came to Virginia Commonwealth University to start his civilian medical career. He served as the Associate Program Director for 7 years before becoming the Program Director in July 2022 after a national search. He is appointed as an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine. He serves as a Senior Reviewer for Annals of Emergency Medicine and has published numerous articles in a variety of emergency medicine topics. His interests include evidence-based medicine, teaching research skills and fundamentals, as well as any well designed project that lets him use his biostatistic program for dummies.

Grace Hickam, MD
Assistant Program Director
Grace Hickam, MD completed her undergraduate medical training at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine followed by her residency training also at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. She recently completed her Fellowship training in Medical Education and is currently completing her Masters in Education for Health Professionals at John Hopkins University. Her interests are in gender equity in residency training, medical education innovation, simulation, quality and safety, global health as well as educational evaluation and feedback.

Stephen Miller, DO
Assistant Program Director
Stephen Miller attended Virginia Tech for undergraduate studies before attending medical school at the UNT Health Science Center Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, TX. He completed his residency at Virginia Commonwealth University and was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine. He currently serves as the Assistant Program Director as well as Director for Emergency Preparedness and chairs the emergency department sepsis task force. Dr. Miller serves as an ARCTIC (Advanced Resuscitation Cooling Therapeutics and Intensive Care) Attending, is a member of the Emergency Department quality improvement committee, and has served as Medical Director of the VCU transfer center. In 2015 he had the opportunity to be the Chief Medical Officer for the UCI Road World Championship. His interests include disaster medicine, education, research and quality improvement in both sepsis and resuscitation, as well as evidence-based medicine.

Nathan Lewis, MD
Assistant Program Director, Clerkship Director
Nate Lewis obtained his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Virginia and his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Upon completion of emergency medicine residency at VCU, Dr. Lewis stayed on as faculty. He now serves as the director for M3 and M4 emergency medicine rotations in the medical school and as an assistant program director for the residency program. Additionally, Dr. Lewis is actively involved in undergraduate medical education and medical student advising through the Clerkship Directors in Emergency Medicine. He has served on several national committees and is a member of the CORD Advising Students Committee in EM. Dr. Lewis is also the creator and cohost of the EM Stud Podcast, a podcast for medical students interested in emergency medicine which covers a wide range of topics and includes guests from all over the country. His professional interests include undergraduate and graduate medical education, social media, and simulation.

Kevin Keller
Program Coordinator
Kevin Keller joined the VCU Department of Emergency Medicine in March 2016. Prior to VCU, Kevin worked in graduate medical education consulting in numerous hospitals and academic medical organizations across the U.S. He has over seven years of experience in higher education assessment and accreditation. Kevin earned an M.S. Degree in Organizational Psychology from Virginia Tech. His interests include both individual and program level assessment, use of technology in evaluation and feedback, productivity metrics in clinical teaching settings and individual differences associated with resident performance. Kevin has presented research on testing and assessment at multiple national conferences. RVA is home to Kevin and he enjoys working with residents, especially in the high-energy/high opportunity academic and clinical environment of VCU’s EM Team.
Kindle Zimmerman

Kindle Zimmerman joined the VCU Department of Emergency Medicine GME team in September 2023. Prior to EM, Kindle most recently worked as GME Program Coordinator for the VCU Department of Pathology. She has over 17+ years of work experience at VCU Health within various departments of the health system. Kindle earned her B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice, with a concentration in forensic crime scene investigation in December 2013. Richmond, VA is home to Kindle and her hobbies include finding the best local restaurants, cooking and sharing recipes, playing with her volleyball league and spending time with her family, friends and fur babies.
