VCU EM Scholarship
Research
The majority of our residents are involved in research or publications during their training. This varies from IRB projects, to case reports, to images in EM. We provide guidance and mentorship and encourage residents to develop their own inquiry through our Research Incubator and Medical Education Research Group meet regularly.
Teaching
Residents have ample opportunities to become involved with teaching during residency, including a dedicated teaching block, and a longitudinal education track as an EM2 or EM3. In addition, many residents have presented regionally and nationally.
Critical Appraisal
Our Journal Club meets monthly combining an evening of fun at a RVA restaurant with a critical appraisal of literature
Scholarship Requirement
Emergency Physicians must be Life-Long Learners
Our scholarship requirement is flexible to allow individual development and goals while still meeting the ACGME requirement for scholarly activity. We strongly believe that emergency medicine physicians must commit to a career of life long learning, but recognize this takes different forms based on the individual. A strong foundation in emergency medicine training that allows individual goals and objectives in our supportive environment is a core value to your education plan.
