Innovative Education From Bedside to Classroom
We use innovation, adult learning, and a welcoming learning environment to train you in a busy high acuity environment. We ask our learners to have ownership and commitment to their own education and to the program. Resident input and opinions are welcomed and frequently thought. VCU EM is not only a family, but a respectful team.
Simulation is used extensively to train and evaluate competency in EM procedures and clinical scenarios
During the week, all residents are excused from clinical duty for 20 minute teaching rounds at the bedside or in small groups
The average graduating ED resident performs over 500 bedside ultrasounds during their training

Adult Learning combined with Innovation
Our educational content features short, focused teaching about key topics in emergency medicine. Several hours per conference day include small groups, oral board cases, simulation, class specific breakouts, and dedicated in conference mini-retreats.
