VCU Medical Center is located in downtown Richmond, Virginia. VCU is a major research university and is the largest and most diverse university in the Commonwealth of Virginia. VCU Medical Center is a regional referral center, with a large commitment as the safety net for the underserved of Richmond and all of Virginia. VCU is a level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center, Virginia’s only burn center, a JCAHO comprehensive stroke center, and home of the Virginia Poison Center. The Children’s Hospital of Richmond (ChoR) is located at VCU Medical Center, and a new pediatric tower including a new and expanded Pediatric ED opened in 2023. A brand new Adult Outpatient Pavilion opened in December of 2021 and helps serve VCU’s mission of expanding outpatient access. VCU Health also includes a stand alone ED in New Kent County, VCU Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Virginia, and VCU has recently acquired an additional community hospital in Tappahannock, Virginia. In collaboration with Sheltering Arms, VCU Health has opened a new rehabilitation hospital in Richmond.
